Mail art: Mail from a time

By Edmar Almeida + colaboration

The woodcut work “Time passes like an arrow that moves without being noticed”, is transformed into postcards, not limited to the space field of the Juquery clock tower, but to places where Edmar Almeida spent these last years of research and immersions. This image was recorded in sets of 4 woodcut matrices, grooved in wood, forming a kind of stamp, which were later soaked in ink, transferring their prints to the paper; each color is a matrix, which by means of registers and inserts, results in the epic image of the Juquery clock. For the artist, the result is not limited to drifts around the hospital, but the position of his gaze on the macro graphs that hide there, like the moths, a symbolism present in the work, which awakens links and indications of a plastic contextualization of the artist himself.

Approaches and walks are represented in this work, which gains greater weight for the 3rd Edition of the Festival Soy loco por ti Juquery, whose symphony instigates to reflect on the current context that the pandemic has caused for humanity, who today live in social isolation, like this that many patients who have passed and are in Juquery in isolation from the world because, these people know the weight and the continuous life of these isolation states. For the artist, this relationship imposed in this work is to bring the fraternal side of the face-to-face social relations, shaken by the current moment we live, in addition to thinking of Juquery as the opening of a time, as well as the woodcut work that was transformed into a postcard and addressed to homes of Francoroch residents, the action causes the sender to send information, rethinking current human relationships, borders and natures, freedoms and vigilances, connecting these narratives. Postcards create collaborative writing and connectivity with Juquery and the city.

Within the approach, 16 postcards were delivered to people who had their lives crossed by the history of Juquery, where they were selected through an open call and beyond, we fired 1000 (thousand) units of postcards at random addresses in different neighborhoods from the city of Franco da Rocha. People are invited to write stories, events, curiosities and experiences with Juquery, so through collaboration the work becomes expansive and graphic of the information brought by the city.

All culmination and information generated by social networks, in addition to the 16 collaborative stories, initially mapped by the artist Edmar Almeida and added to the hashtag information on social networks, will be information and connections for the creation of video performance, where the artist later places his body to narrate this collected information that permeates Juquery and the city, bringing relativities and personal experiences of the people directly or indirectly involved in this process.
